How to support BLM!
Knowledge is power, the more we know the more we can support BLM, you might think this won’t affect me or isn’t a problem in my area or country, but this is where you can open your awareness and really make a difference, even just keeping the movement going in your social circles will raise awareness and push for change. Here are some ways to learn and educate:
- Keep up to date with news of BLM, protests, injustices and black community leaders and activists on social media such as Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, Layla F. Saad, Martin Luther King III, Amanda Seales and Aja Barber. If you can get to protests it is a great way to actively support BLM.
- Read articles and books on BLM such as Why I’m no longer talking to white people about race by Reni Eddo-Lodge , Me And White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad or Blacklife: Post-Blm and the Struggle for Freedom by Rinaldo Walcott.
- Watch and share videos, movies and podcasts. Netflix has a BLM section some great options are ‘Dear white people‘, ‘The innocent files‘, ‘13th and Oprah Winfrey presents: When They See Us Now’.
- Donate and support black-led organisations such as Stop Hate UK, Black Lives Matter UK, UK Black Pride, Black Minds Matter, Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, Show Racism The Red Card and Stand Up To Racism. Sign and share petitions.
